Kashmir Houseboat Tours

Kashmir Houseboat Tours

Kashmir one is charmed by its geographical assets which includes, mist clad mountains, evergreen forests, beauteous lakes and waterfalls.

The beautiful houseboats with its soft gentle sounds of rippling waters are the greatest attractions of Kashmir. Made of woods, these houseboats are basically intricately carved wood paneling. The houseboats are of different sizes, some having up to three bedrooms apart from a living room and kitchen. Still some of the House boats built in 1990s were given in rent to the tourists.

The houseboats in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir are usually stationary and moored at the edges of the Dal and Nageen lakes, as compared to that of the house boats in Kerala. Basically all standard houseboats are being provided with a balcony in the front, a lounge, dining room, pantry and 3 or more bedrooms with attached bathrooms. All houseboats not moored to the bank of the river or lakes provide a shikara as a free service from the houseboat to the nearest Ghat (jetty). Also, all House boats in Srinagar are being connected with a municipal water supply.

To have an unique experience of living on the water in a cedar-paneled elegant bedroom, tourist from all over the world like for over nights in these House Boats with all the conveniences of a luxury hotel. Srinagar's thousand or so houseboats, each decorated fancifully and named romantically and even whimsically; are moored along sections of the Dal and Nagin Lakes and the Jhelum River. Like hotels, houseboats too are being graded in comparison to their luxuries by the Department of Tourism.

A luxurious houseboat includes comfortable and fine furniture, good carpets and modern bathroom fittings, while the ‘D category' (the lowest category) of houseboats, similar to low-category hotels, is spartanly furnished. House boats are being located at different wide areas with some overlooking the main road, while others facing onto the lotus gardens or some others with local markets and villages, which too are floating on the lake. All houseboats, regardless of category, have highly personalized service, accompanied by a "houseboy" for every boat, along with its owner and his family is often neighboring.
